Volunteers at Matthew Arnold Reserve

Green Space Volunteering with Oxford Conservation Volunteers - Iffley Island

Venue: Iffley Island.

OCV will lead this weekend task and they welcome any extra pairs of hands.

Iffley Island, a mixed rush and reed meadow habitat on the east bank of the Thames just downstream from Aston's Eyot. OCV were at Iffley Island in August to mow and rake the reed bed. They're back in October to pollard some of the willow trees that border the site. Pollarding will keep the trees in good shape and in good health. There will be a significant amount of cut material, logs and brash, to process and stack in the wood at the tip of the promontory.

Meet at 9:45am: The access to the field is off Meadow Lane, through The Kidney nature reserve.

Buses: Regular buses stop on Iffley Road and Donnington Bridge Road and it's a short walk from there.

Parking: Free parking nearby but check as it is time limited.

Please bring your own gardening gloves, hydrating drink (hot & cold), a snack and sturdy shoes/boots/wellies, suitable weather-related layers.

No experience necessary. Tools will be provided. Nearest toilets are at local pubs.

Please register your interest by emailing: info@oxfordpreservation.org.uk
