Green Space Volunteering with Oxford Conservation Volunteers - Matthew Arnold Reserve
Venue: Matthew Arnold Reserve
OCV will lead this weekend task and they welcome any extra pairs of hands.
Matthew Arnold Field & Reserve in Boars Hill is a mixed woodland, grassland, and wetland site, named after the poet, and cultural critic Matthew Arnold. The OCV task will help us manage the woods in line with a long-term plan to open up the ground floor to more light, cut back the thicker areas of scrub (the willows especially), keep the paths open, and do some ad hoc DIY plumbing using the materials at hand to enhance the wetland habitat. There may be some working in or near the woodland ponds, so wellies are likely to be useful.
Meet at 10am: The access to the field is off Jarn Way, map link.
Buses: X1 from Oxford Centre to the top of Hinksey Hill, c. 45 minute walk from there.
Parking: Free parking on Jarn Way.
Please bring your own gardening gloves, hydrating drink (hot & cold), a snack and sturdy shoes/boots/wellies, suitable weather-related layers.
No experience necessary. Tools will be provided. Nearest toilets are at local pubs.
