Kennington Memorial Field - volunteering with Abingdon Green Gym

OPT purchased this field, thanks to the support of funds raised by villagers, in 1946 as a permanent memorial to the men of Kennington who were killed in WWII. The field is a permanent pasture which is grazed by cattle to maintain the mosaic of habitats. There is permissive public access to the field.

Task: Working at the top of the bank, AGG will be clearing scrub around the ant hills to help recover the grassland in these areas and keep the scrub under control. 

Meet at 9.30am: Eleanor from Abingdon Green Gym is leading the task and will meet you at the Playfield Road car park, OX1 5RS. Access to the field is through the playing field off Playfield Road or via walking down the entrance off The Avenue, just south of Cranbrook Drive.

Ways to get there: You can secure your bike in the car park. The 35 bus runs along The Avenue, between Oxford and Abingdon. Free parking in the car park.

Please bring your own gardening gloves, sturdy shoes/boots, suitable weather-related layers and a drink & snack. No experience necessary. Tools will be provided. Nearest toilets are in the Kennington Village Centre.
