The Victoria Arms shortlisted for National Award

Louise Lockyer

The Victoria Arms in Old Marston has been named the best pub in Oxfordshire and shortlisted to be chosen as the country's best pub. Judges of the National Pub and Bar Awards were impressed by how the team at The Vicky Arms, "demonstrated excellence in design, service, food and drink and style of offer".

The Victoria Arms is located at the nearest point of the Cherwell to Old Marston village. The building dates from the 17th century and is full of history, at one time the ferryman's cottage, it is said the site later played host to parliamentarian Oliver Cromwell.

OPT purchased The Victoria Arms and adjoining land in 1959 to save the nearly derelict building and protect the area from development. Fully renovated, the pub re-opened in summer 1986, situated on the picturesque banks of the River Cherwell and with mooring available for punts, it's become a firm favourite on the Oxford pub scene.
