Proposal:

Proposal number 24/00903/ADV. Display of 1no. non-illuminated vinyl window sign and 1no. non-illuminated vinyl balustrade sign.

Said Business School, Park End Street, Oxford, OX1 1HP

Our Response:

The Said Business School is located in a prominent location at the western end of the approach to the city. The works to Frideswide Square have created a well-used open public space, and the entrance pavilion located on the main façade of the business school is a key contributor to this area of public realm. The open windows on this elevation opens up the building, so those passing can glimpse the activity inside.

Policy DH6 within the adopted Local Plan states that permission will only be granted for adverts which responds to and positively contributes to the character of the surroundings.

OPT have concerns that the introduction of vinyl window signs on these prominent windows within the public domain would be harmful to the overall impact this building has on the character and appearance of the wider Frideswide Square, cluttering the principle elevation with advertising. It would also be regretful to screen the current transparent main façade which is a key part of the buildings design and contributes positively to the public realm.
